ActionSA scores victory as Mogorwane Pedestrian Bridge Project gets green light

In a significant victory for the community of Mogorwane Village, ActionSA in Sekhukhune Region has announced that the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) has finally committed to completing the long-abandoned Mogorwane Pedestrian Bridge.

The bridge, which was meant to provide safe passage for school children and residents, had been left unfinished, sparking outrage and concern among locals.

The construction of the pedestrian bridge began in November 2024, with a promised completion date of January 2025.

However, the project was allegedly abandoned by the contractor, leaving the community frustrated and worried about the safety of their children.

ActionSA Chairperson in Sekhukhune Region, Tonic Manchidi, said the party had been advocating for the completion of the bridge, citing the municipality’s commitment to ensuring the safety of scholars from Mapogo Primary and Mawuane Secondary Schools.

“After persistent engagement with the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, ActionSA’s efforts have finally yielded results. The municipality has committed to completing the bridge, which will provide safe passage for residents and enhance accessibility and economic opportunities in the area,” Manchdi said.

Manchidi added that ActionSA will continue to monitor the progress closely, ensuring that the contractor adheres to timelines and quality standards.

“ActionSA is dedicated to holding local governments accountable and delivering tangible results for the citizens it serves. The community of MLM Ward 10 can now look forward to a safer and more accessible future,” he said.

Manchidi hinted that the long-awaited Mogorwane Pedestrian Bridge is not just a construction project, but it is a vital step towards enhancing safety, accessibility, and economic opportunities for the people of Mogorwane.

“Pedestrian bridges are crucial infrastructure, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, providing safe passage over natural obstacles or busy thoroughfares. The completion of this bridge will have a significant impact on the daily lives of residents, particularly school children, who will no longer have to navigate hazardous areas to get to school,” said Manchidi.
