Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality reaches out to rural communities

Elias Motsoaledi – Residents of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality at Ward 17 and Surrounding communities were delighted to get serviced through Speaker’s outreach drive.

The municipality’s office of the Speaker, in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), recently held a Community Outreach Program  to assist residents with the application of IDs, birth certificates and social grants.

Simon Makua, ENLM Communications Manager, indicated that the purpose of this outreach that took place on 29 January,  2024 was to bring government closer to the people and inform communities of services provided by each department.

The Speaker of Council, Dieketseng Mashego emphasized the importance of registering to vote and urged people to do so, and stressed that appearing on the voter’s roll is important for budget allocations.

Grade 12 learners from the local schools came in their numbers to apply for their Smart Card IDs in preparation for their final examination.

Makua stressed that people need to attend valuable inputs of the institution for development of communities.

“These are ongoing programs of the municipality to ensure that residents within the ambit of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality get services. They ensure that people do not have to travel long distances at a cost to access services. They are very vital in communal development and we encourage communities to avail themselves when the opportunity arises. We have had a great turnout and we really appreciate the attendance which is evidence that people really believe in local governance and its effort to promote the quality of life,” mentioned Makua.
