Multi-disciplinary forces’ operations continue to yield positive results
SEKHUKHUNE – Different units of the South African Police Service (SAPS), joined by other structures across the province nabbed 1322 suspects for various crimes including murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, sexual offences, assaults, fraud and drug related cases during high intensity operations conducted from 15 to 21 January.
The executions by the multi-disciplinary forces were through roadblocks, stop and searches, compliance inspections at liquor premises, and second-hand dealers.
Eighty-four suspects were apprehended for cases related to drugs, wherein police seized 48.711g of dagga, 52.004g of Crystal Meth, 1g of Crack cocaine or rocks. Fourteen suspects were also nabbed for rape cases and 17 for transgression of Domestic Violence Act.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, indicated that 222 reports of domestic violence were attended and 306 protection orders were served.
“Furthermore, they confiscated and recovered four firearms with 31 ammunition, 772897.5ml of liquor, 26 knives, 30 dangerous weapons, 10 stolen or hijacked motor vehicles and 855764 counterfeit cigarette sticks,” added Ledwaba.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers has welcomed the arrests and also highlighted the issue of drugs and domestic violence cases in the province.
Major General Scheepers called upon community members to work together with police through reporting cases and stand for helpless victims and drug addicts. “They should come up with strategies and innovations to assist in any possible way,” said General Sheepers.
The suspects have already started appearing before various Magistrates’ courts across the province.
