Moutse traffic station useless
MOUTSE – The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo (DA) in Limpopo announced that it would lodge a complaint with Transport and Community Safety MEC, Florence Radzilani to request reasons behind the failure of the Moutse traffic station outside Groblersdal to provide comprehensive services to residents in the area.
Suzan Phala, DA Provincial Spokesperson for Transport and Community Safety, said that when the state-of-the-art traffic station opened in 2019, it was meant provide all the driving, traffic and licensing services.
Phala said that however, learners and drivers’ licenses services have never been provided and people from Moutse travelled to Groblersdal and Marble Hall for licensing services.
“The station provides only law enforcement and is a registering authority. During a recent oversight with the transport committee, no clients were seen,” said Phala.
She added that the traffic station has 36 traffic officers, three cashiers, and 4 administrative staff. Amongst the traffic officers, there are examiners who initially were earmarked to conduct driving tests.
Phala concluded that as the party they called on the department to initiate engagements with RTMC to provide a learners’ and driver’s licenses system to keep the station operational, cost effective and relieve pressure on other traffic stations.
Tidimalo Chuene, Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety Spokesperson, said the department was aware of the matter and concerned that the facility was not yet fully operational.
Chuene added that Moutse was in their long term plan for construction of the testing station in the same area where the current provincial station was, to provide facilities required for provision of expected services to residents of the area.
“This is work in progress, however also very important to indicate that construction of a new facility is dependent on the availability of funds, as allocated over different financial years,” concluded Chuene.
