Limpopo Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, said learners should use the remaining days to prepare thoroughly for the final yearly matric examination.
Lerule-Ramakhanya said when addressing more than 1600 learners, from Sekhukhune East and South Education Districts during her visit to Sehlaku Technical School in Driekop outside Burgersfort on Tuesday 18 October.
According to the Education Department, the MECs visit forms part of the department’s ‘Last Push Matric’ event, which is scheduled to motivate Grade 12 learners ahead of the final matric exams. The province has 111 515 fulltime learners enrolled for matric this year.
The two districts, Sekhukhune East and South, are among other that did not perform well in the 2021 matric final examinations. During the Education Indaba, convened by Premier Stan Mathabatha early this year, it was resolved that additional support is needed to struggling districts among other interventions.
The department indicated that the two districts had enrichment camps during school holidays, while some were taken to camps outside their district for additional catch-up classes.
Lerule-Ramakhanya said the last push is aimed at boosting the matriculates’ morale ahead of their final Basic Education hurdle.
“The last push event is meant to motivate the lowest performing districts to raise the bar and assist the province to improve the result,” she said.
According to the MEC, the department had various intervention programmes since the beginning of the year to assist learners from the two education districts.
MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya said the performance of Sekhukhune will determine the overall performance of the province. She pleaded with learners to dedicate the remaining days to catch-up and group studies.
“We have done everything in our power to assist you, catch up programmes, enrichment classes and bringing subject experts to make sure that you are prepared. The ball is now in your court, make us proud,” she said.
The Education Department said it will conclude the motivation drive in Mogalakwena on Friday 21 October, where learners are expected to pledge ahead of the exams.
