Gogo needs help after her roof was blown away

NTOANE – The 82 year-old elderly woman at Lesehleng in Ntoane Village, Gogo Puleng Matjie needs help in repairing the roof o her house.

Gogo Matjie’s plight started when a heavy storm blew away the roof of her house recently and she cannot afford to repair it.

Her hopes to get help from Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality came crashing down when representatives from the municipality only brought her groceries and a plastic to cover her furniture in case it rained.

According to Gogo Matjie she was told there was nothing the local municipality could assist her with and that she must use her pension grant to repair the blown away roof of her house.

Gogo Matjie said that reminded her of painful days years ago when she was denied an RDP house and a toilet because she has no children.

The elderly is worried that the little pension money she gets cannot afford to repair the roof of her house.

She said the pension money goes towards groceries and other daily amenities and was too little to repair a roof of a house.

Seun Mogotjie, a community leader, appealed to Non-Government Organizations (NGO), humanitarian groups and all the Good Samaritan to lend a helping hand for the elderly Matjie.

Currently Gogo Matjie is having sleepless night every time when rain clouds gather and she is also concerned about her safety.

Simon Makua, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Spokesperson, confirmed that a team from the municipality visited the elderly Matjie’s house after the incident.
