More SALGA Annual Audit Awards for Makhuduthamaga

JANE FURSE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality dominated the spotlight during the recent SALGA’s Annual Audit Awards.

The SALGA Annual Audit Awards are organized annually in recognition of accountability and achievements towards good governance and individual municipalities’ response to local government.

The local municipality bagged three awards for sustaining its unqualified audit opinion and its spending on Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) which goes towards infrastructure roll-out program to communities on which it has managed to spend 100 percent for the third year, consecutively.

The awards further honour and appreciate the utilization of internal capacity when preparing annual financial statements instead of relying on external consultants, resulting in spending money which should be prioritized towards services to communities.

Makhuduthamaga Mayor, Minah Bahula, said subsequently, that could only translate and lead to a better life for the beneficiaries of municipal services, which were their people.

Bahula indicated that the ANC-led government has given them a responsibility and they were humbled by the honour and the people they served.

She added that meant there was something good they were doing since they were given a chance to lead.

“All these awards we have attained since we came into office are for our people, for the people trust and mandate bestowed on us,” concluded Bahula.

Meanwhile, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) received an award for an unqualified audit opinion and 100 percent Municipal Infrastructure Gant (MIG) spending.

EPMLM Mayor, Molaodi Mothogwane, said that was the beginning of good things to come and that even though they were under and still under the hard times of the pandemic of COVID-19, through all the difficulties and the challenges the municipality has faced, they still managed to obtain that amazing outcome.
