Police help deliver baby

ROEDTAN – The South African Police Service (SAPS) members in Roedtan outside Marble Hall were forced to help a woman deliver a new born baby at the station recently.

This after the 23 year-old woman approached the station’s Community Service Centre (CSC) complaining about labour pains.

According to police, a male constable who was on duty at the time immediately contacted a female Sergeant on patrol, who quickly rushed back to the station, for help with the woman.

The duo, Constable Solomon Mnisi and Sergeant Nkang Mogoru, collaborated in assistance of the young mother in giving birth to in the boardroom of the station.

They at the same time summoned an ambulance which immediately arrived and transported the new born baby and her mother to the hospital.

Sergeant Mogoru indicated that she understood the risks involved in all such incidents but as police they were often faced with situations where they were forced to perform duties beyond the normal SAPS mandate in order to save lives.

During the delivery of the new born baby girl, Mogoru used her own emergency kit and resources and the baby delivery was a success.
