Destitute families receive food
GA-MASEMOLA/MALOPE – Four different destitute families around the Ga-Masemola and Malope area within the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality benefited from the local municipality’s food parcels donation initiative programme.
The local municipality Mayor, Minah Bahula, embarked on the food parcels’ donation programme on Monday, 03 May 2021.
Mayor Bahula’s goodwill and kind gesture came after the destitute families, which are mostly child-headed households, were identified by the local municipal ward committees through their public participation program and door to door visitations conducted in the area.
Bahula continued to express gratitude to the local business community for the support in the initiative through the donation of food to the municipality so that in turn relief was able to be provided for those in need.
“We thank the local businesses for their continued commitment in donating food to the municipality so that in turn we are able to provide relief to our poor communities. We rely heavily on their good hearts, and also make a clarion call to other local businesses to do so and feed the needy,” said Bahula.
The beneficiaries in the donations of the food parcels, the Masemola, Mampholo, Sello and Malope families expressed their appreciation of the good efforts from the local municipality Mayor, Bahula, and her team for extending a helping hand to them at the time of need.
Since the announcement of the country’s lockdown in March last year by President Cyril Ramaphosa in an effort to arrest the fast spread of the novel coronavirus, millions of families in the country, especially in rural areas were faced with the challenge of putting food on the table, many forced to go to bed on empty stomachs as businesses closed doors.
The local municipality’s efforts in donating food parcels to the needy is a continuation of government’s efforts initiated since the lockdown to ensure that people received helped in sustaining their livelihoods.
