Pupils on cloud nine after disaster management teams’ visit

Most pupils at Phogole Primary school in Ga Mahlokoane village want to work as traffic officers and firefighters in future.

 

This was evident when the Fetakgomo Tubaste Local Municipality (FTLM)‘s community services department jointly with Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM)   firefighter station held an awareness campaign at the school on Tuesday.

 

The purpose of the campaign was to teach children and to share tips on preventing disaster issues at homes, obeying rules on the road and waste management.

 

The traffic officers, disaster management officials, waste management officials and the fire fighter all presented their programs to the learners and teachers at the school.

 

About 50 percent of learners shown interests to become traffic officers, fire fighter as their future careers

 

Speaking at the event, traffic Officer Olgar Mampone warned the pupils not to indulge in alcohol and drugs.

 

“Stop engaging in illegal stuff, respect your elders and listen to your teachers. Study hard and pass your matric thereafter you can choose a correct career path. Please do not drink alcohol nor smoke cigarettes.”

The campaign was held under strict Covid 19 regulations.

The school also complied with Covid -19 regulations, all learners and teachers were wearing masks, sanitizing regularly and social distancing was observed.
