After years of complaints, the Stocking road has finally been erected by the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM).
On Friday, residents were relieved as the MLM’s mayor Minah Bahula officially handed over the five-kilometre internal road.
The surrounding areas such as Tukakgomo and Ga-Phasha will also benefit from this project. Bahula believes the project will have a developmental impact and will also create an economic link to the neighbouring towns, such as Jane Furse and Steelpoort.
Communities were delighted to finally have a road with safer access and proper internal day-to-day travel.
“The construction of the road has brought massive economic opportunities. Over 40 work opportunities were created and most of the materials used were procured locally,” said Bahula.
The mayor used the visit to also hand over two houses to destitute families of Mokwena and Maripane.
The houses were built by the service provider that constructed the road, Bohlabatsatsi Group. The two fully furnished five-roomed houses boast two bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen and toilet each.
The families have expressed heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of the MLM and Bohlabatsatsi for the houses.
