Man dies trying to connect electricity illegally

Residents of Shushumela Ext 3 could not believe their eyes when they witnessed a man trying to illegally connect electricity dying. The incident occurred on Monday night at about 20:00.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was busy connecting electricity illegally for locals when he was electrocuted to death.
Limpopo SAPS spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe said an inquest docket had been opened by the Tubatse SAPS.
“The officer on duty alleged that he was on duty when he received a complaint that someone has been shocked by electricity at Shushumela.
“He rushed to the scene and upon arrival he found an African male who was later identified as Frans Motubatse (42) was shocked by electricity and fell down from the top of an electric pole to the ground .
“It is believed that he was doing illegal connections from the electrical transformer. The officer alleged that he discovered the deceased sustained multiple injuries on his body, ”revealed Ngoepe.
Residents said they were left with no choice but to connect illegally. “Our homes were supposed to be electrifed but the local municipality did not complete the Operation Mabone initiative which was earmarked to electrify our homes,” said one resident.
They said the whole area had lots of illegal connections.
