Alleged mentally disabled man hacks victim to death
GA-MASHEGOANA – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sekhukhune have launched a massive manhunt for a suspect who allegedly murdered a 44 year-old man on Monday, 11 January 2021 at Ga-Mashegoana Village while the two were visiting a traditional healer.
Police said it was alleged that in the early hours of that morning at about 00:30, the police received information about someone being murdered in the area. They quickly responded and arrived at the scene of the crime together with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and found the victim severely injured. He was certified dead on the scene and identified as the 44 year-old Mpho Joseph Sekele.
Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said it was alleged that the victim and the suspect were sleeping together in a room at the traditional healer’s place for treatment when the incident occurred.
Seabi said the suspect bludgeoned the victim several times with a sharp instrument and thereafter fled the scene wearing a blanket with short pants. The suspect is allegedly suffering a mental disability.
