The SAPS’s festive season operations resulted in 1626 suspects arrested in Limpopo over the past week. The suspects were arrested during the ongoing festive season joint operations which were conducted until Monday.
The suspects were arrested for various crimes that include possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, contravention of road traffic act, robberies, rape, murder, assault, common robbery, sexual offences, burglary residential, burglary business, stock theft and more.
The operations comprised of members of the SAPS derived from the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), Tactical Response Team (TRT), the Crime Intelligence, organised crime unit and narcotics unit, detectives, traffic police and other several role players.
The operations have acquired the overwhelming confiscations being, 22 firearms, five suspected stolen motor vehicles, seven cell phones, 85 954 cartoons of illicit cigarettes and 38 dangerous weapons.
“While these operations were unfolding, we conducted 147 road blocks and 5193 stop and searches, 1765 road traffic summons were issued, 41 766 persons were searched, 16 227 motor vehicles were searched and 34 shebeens were closed,” said Limpopo SAPS spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
The suspects arrested during these operations are expected to appear before different magistrate courts throughout Limpopo. The Provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba urged members of the community to continue working closely with the Police at all levels in the fight against crime to ensure a peaceful festive season period.
“Anyone who might witness a criminal act or who is having information about a wanted suspect or the existence of illegal firearms or stolen items including cars, should urgently call the nearest Police Station or the 10111 number or the crime stop number 0860010111 or MySAPSApp.”
