ANC won by-elections

The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has won by-elections which were held on November 11.

Four municipalities in the province hosted by-elections and four wards were contested.

In the Sekhukhune region, Fetakgomo Tubatse local municipality (FTLM), ward 34, the ANC has emerged victorious with 78.04 percent of the vote.

As part of convincing voters during by-elections, the provincial chairperson of the ANC Stanley Chupu Mathabatha together with regional chair, Stanley Ramaila visited and interacted with party’s volunteers in various voting stations in the FTLM

After by-elections results were announced the party has sent message of thanks to the voters.

“Of all wards the party contested at local government level across all nine provinces, the ANC won 73.6 percent of them,” message reads.

The party said it does not take the responsibility given to them lightly.

Meanwhile the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said it is pleased with the successful holding of by-elections across 55 municipalities in all nine provinces yesterday which were overwhelmingly calm, peaceful and smooth.

“These elections were extraordinary in that they were the first to be held in South Africa under covid-19 conditions and were the largest number of by-elections held on a single day in our history.

“The commission is also encouraged by the turnout of voters which is within the range for by-elections held since the 2016 municipal elections,” explained commission.

According to the IEC the average turnout on Wednesday’s by-elections was 37.83 percent compared to an average of 38.73 percent over the past four years.

The commission has wishes to express its gratitude to those voters who came out to vote and for following the covid-19 protocols strictly and without complaint.

“We also express our thanks to the political parties, candidates and agents for their support, cooperative and contribution to the success of these by elections.

“We also extended to the SAPS for being a constantly dependable partner in the delivery of safe and peaceful elections,” briefed IEC.
