A police officer stationed at the Apel SAPS is among 16 suspects that were arrested by the Limpopo SAPS last Friday.
The suspects were arrested during a sting operation by the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team.
They were all nabbed for possession of drugs and dagga and also for dealing with illicit cigarettes.
The suspects are aged between 25 and 41.
“We have arrested one of our colleagues. A 36 year old constable stationed at Apel Police Station in the SAPS Sekhukhune District, he was arrested during the stop and search operation after he was found in possession of drugs in the Ga-Masemola Policing area within the same district.
“During the arrest, the SAPS confiscated 20 sachets of drugs (nyaope) loaded in his motor vehicle. Three ammunition and a firearm were also seized from him,”revealed Limpopo SAPS spokesman Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo.
Meanwhile at Hlogotlou, SAPS also received information about a suspect who was dealing in drugs.
“They reacted swiftly and rushed to the house of the suspect in Monsterlos Unit A. On arrival, this suspect’s house was searched and police found
1000 brown small plastics containing drugs (nyaope) and 170 sachets of crystal myths drugs.
“Subsequently, a 25 year old suspect was apprehended for possession and dealing in drugs.
“In a separate incident, still in the same area, two suspects aged 28 and 35 were arrested at Monterlos RDP Section for possession of dagga, obstructing the SAPS to do their work and defeating the ends of justice. The police confiscated 65 sachets of dagga. “
Mojapelo said all the arrested suspects including the man in blue will soon appear before various magistrate’s courts in the Sekhukhune area.
The Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba complimented the LHPT members for their relentless efforts in the fight against the mushrooming of drugs and illicit cigarettes across Limpopo.
