MARBLE HALL – Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) council has recently sacked the local municipality’s Corporate Services Director, then Acting Municipal Manager, Makoko Lekola for alleged misconduct.
Lekola who was then Acting Municipal Manager was informed of his dismissal during a recent special council sitting.
The Bolsheviks Party of South Africa (BPSA), an opposition party in Sekhukhune district, welcomed the council’s decision to sack Lekola.
Seun Mogotji, BPSA leader, said as the party they welcomed the decision to dismiss the then Acting Municipal Manager as his party has taken a rhetoric stance to root out corruption and supported every move of seeing to thwart corruption.
Mogotji said BPSA applauded the council for taking such a resolution and would also put forward that it should not end there.
“The council should also make means of investigating other appointments related to Lekola and check if the recruitment processes were correctly followed,” said Mogotji.
The then Acting Municipal Manager, Lekola’s sacking followed allegations of him appointing the local municipality’s Chief Internal Auditor without following proper recruitment processes..
Flip Jacobs, DA Councillor in EPMLM, said it was a good thing that Lekola was fired. He pleaded guilty to gross dereliction of duty, gross negligence, so he had no intension to appeal because he pleaded guilty. Council allowed him to desist of his duty without any delay.
Jacobs said as the DA they were pleased that something was being done at the local municipality about senior managers who were not abiding by the rules and regulations of the municipality.
Attempts to get comment from EPMLM were not successful at the time of going to press.
