Zama Zamas arrested and equipment worth R10 million seized

Sixteen Zama Zamas were arrested on Friday
by the Limpopo SAPS in Driekop. The police also seized equipment worth R10
million.
The members of Provincial Organised Crime (POC) and Tactical Response Team(TRT)
assisted by the airwing arrested the suspects for illegal mining during an
Intelligence led joint operation.
“The arrest follows a tip off about a group of suspects allegedly mining
chrome illegally in this area.
“Police accurately operationalized the information which led to the arrest
of the suspects and confiscation of items worth R10 million,” revealed
Limpopo SAPS spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
During the arrest SAPS confiscated three excavators, a Nissan NP 200 bakkie,
seven spades and five hammers.
The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 51, will soon appear before the
Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has commended
the Police for tirelessly fighting against illegal mining in the Limpopo
province.
Ngoepe said the Police investigations are still continuing in this case.
