TUBATSE – Police joint operations conducted throughout all districts of the province during the past week until Monday, 19 October 2020, managed to arrest more than a thousand-nine-hundred suspects for various crimes.
According to police the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, robberies, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of nyaope drugs, rape, illegal mining to carrying dangerous weapons.
In Tubatse area, members of the SAPS intelligence and crime prevention units recovered two firearms and suspected stolen VW Polo during an intelligence driven joint operation conducted in the early hours of Sunday, 18 October 2020, morning.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the suspects fled the scene and were believed to be responsible for a series of crimes in the area. Police manhunt for the suspects continues.
Mojapelo said the operations comprised members from various SAPS units including Limpopo highway patrol team, crime intelligence, operational response services tracking team, stock theft, air-wing, tactical response team, endangered species, the detectives and crime prevention.
“Police recovered 236 294 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 56 dangerous weapons, 1674 grams of dagga, 176 grams of nayope, 22 firearms, five motor vehicles, 76 knives and 780 356ml of liquor during the operations,” said Mojapelo.
Lieutenant General Nnke Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial SAPS Commissioner, commended the operational members for their relentless efforts in fighting all criminal activities across the province.
Mojapelo concluded that some of the arrested suspects have already started appearing before different magistrate courts across the province.
