Traffic officer filmed assaulting civilian suspended

The Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) has confirmed the suspension of MMG Mohlala.

Mohlala was recently captured on a video assaulting a community member.

The video went viral on social media networks showing Mohlala slapping and yelling and the man be forcefully throwing him to the ground and then subduing him.

In a media statement,the communications team at the Makhuduthamaga highlighted, ” The Municipal Traffic Officer (Mr Mohlala MMG) who was filmed assaulting a community member while on duty, has now been suspended by the Municipality.

“The Municipality has in line with the provision of schedule 8 of code of conduct of the Labour Relations Act, decided to suspend him for a period not exceeding three months with full pay, while a full investigation takes place,”the statement said.

The Municipality said it views the incident in a serious light.

” We therefore continues to appreciate the patience of stakeholders and the public by allowing due process to take place in the matter, so that correct measures can be taken which correspond with the incident,” said the MLM spokesman Lemson Moropjane.
