Makhuduthamaga traffic officer filmed assaulting civilian

The Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality said
investigations are currently underway after their traffic officer was
filmed assaulting a civilian.
The said official was in line of duty when the incident happened. The video went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.
The video show the traffic officer slapping
and shouting at the man before forcefully throwing him to the ground and
then subduing him.
On Monday, the municipality’s
communications team issued a statement condemning and expressing shock and
dismay at the video circulating.
Mayor of Makhuduthamaga ,Cllr Minah Bahula
condemned with the strongest possible terms and has equally urged the
Municipal Manager to act expediently and decisively on this matter and she
expected feedback from soon.
“We wish to apologise to the public. The
incident portrays a bad image and bring our municipality into disrepute.
It is not like our municipality to behave like that.
“In our more than 20 years of existence as a
local government, this is the first incident of this nature which not only
belittle us but also destroys our culture as the Municipality.
“We hope the public understand the measure we
have taken which is commensurate with this act’’ Said the Mayor.
In the meantime, the traffic official has been
issued with a letter of intention to suspend pending the investigation and
is required to provide the MLM with a full representation within the next
48 hours on why he should not be suspended from work.
