LIMPOPO’S HIGHWAY PATROL TEAM CONTINUES TO CURB CRIME

The SAPS Limpopo Highway Patrol Team nabbed four suspects aged between 36 and
48 for offences that include possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of
unlicensed ammunition and common assault, during sting operations which were
conducted in the province.
The team confiscated a short gun, black airgun pistol and two live ammunition
during the operations.
The suspects were arrested in various ways, one which a 48 year old man was
arrested on the spot while busy assaulting a woman along corner Munnik Avenue
and Herculus Avenue in the City of Polokwane.
According to Limpopo SAPS spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe, this is part of the
focus area of the SAPS in the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) across
Limpopo.
“While the operations were unfolding along Church Street within the CBD,
the police spotted a suspicious A4 Audi motor vehicle with three occupants
which was tactically pulled off the road and searched.
“In the process, the above mentioned firearms and ammunition were found hidden
inside this motor vehicle. The suspects were unable to produce the licences of
the firearms and were immediately arrested,” added Ngoepe.
He said these operations which were up and running in the Capricorn, Mopani,
Vhembe and Sekhukhune Districts did not leave any stone unturned.
“43 motor vehicles were tested, 64 motor
vehicles were searched, 173 people were searched and the intensive patrols were
conducted at 83 ATMs, 143 Filling stations and 11 shopping malls to prevent business
robberies and ATM bombings.”
The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Limpopo SAPS’s Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the
Provincial Highway Patrol Team for their relentless efforts in the fight
against any form of criminality, especially the TRIO crimes including the
Gender Based Violence.
