MOTETEMA – Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor, Julia Mathebe, together with members of the community of Sterkfontein outside Groblersdal joint hands in protest against the granting of bail of a suspect arrested in connection with the recent murder of a 35 year-old woman.
About two weeks ago, Mayor Mathebe, strongly condemned the brutal murder of the 35 year-old Elizabeth Tjiane from Sterkfontein Village at Nkadimeng section by her boyfriend and father of their daughter.
The brutal murder occurred about two weeks ago when in the evening when the Tjiane was found lying in a pool of blood in a house.
Mathebe said they would show zero tolerance to the cruel and sorrowful incidents of Gender-Based Violence and could not allow for them to continue in communities within the local municipality.
The local municipality mayor called on men to regard protecting women and children as their responsibility and urged parents to teach boys that abuse had no place in the society.
The Groblersdal Taxi Association also availed taxis to Motetema Magistrates Court, where the suspect, Vincent Mogashwa, appeared on Tuesday for bail application.
“We are totally against the brutal murder of women and abuse of children. That is the reason we availed transport for community members to stand in solidarity against the scourge of abuse and killing of women and children by men, said Herbert Radingwana, member of the GTA.
