SEKHUKHUNE – Two more suspects believed to be part of a group responsible for the attack on police members and a business robbery in June this year at Apel outside Lebowakgomo were denied bail when they appeared before the Mecklenburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, 10 September 2020.
The suspects, Fabiano Ndlovu (24) and Alex Ndlovu (28) had their cases postponed to 05 November 2020 for further police investigations and bail application.
Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the arrest of the two suspects emanated from the attack on four police members who were on patrol at a shopping centre in Apel in two vehicles.
Ngoepe said the members were attacked by heavily armed suspect who had just robbed a filling station and later took firearms from the police members.
“The suspects were found at heir hideout in Moroke are outside Burgersfort. During their arrest, police also recovered three of the firearms that were taken from the police officers during the robbery,” said Ngoepe.
Meanwhile, police joint operations conducted in all districts of the province from Monday 07 September until Sunday 13 September 200 evening, resulted in the arrest of 2031 suspects aged between 17 and 51 years-old.
Police said the arrested suspects faced charges ranging from murder, rape, stock theft, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of dagga and dealing in drugs and robberies among others.
The operations included roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, raiding illegal businesses and intensive patrols.
The arrested suspects have already started appearing before various magistrate courts throughout the province but others will still appear this week.
Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial South African Police Service Commissioner, commended the teams across the province for the arrests.
