Awaiting trial prisoners escape

ZAAIPLAAS – The South African Police Services in Zaaiplaas outside Groblersdal have launched a massive manhunt for two suspects who escaped from police holding cells on Saturday, 05 September 2020.

According to police, the escapees were identified as 35 year-old Dingaan Mtshwene who was arrested for rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances, David Mahlatse Sithole (32) who was arrested for rape and Vusi John Mabona (33) who was arrested for murder and rape.

Police said the suspects allegedly escaped when the officers were doing their routine services in the holding cells.

Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the police pursuit them and subsequently managed to re-arrest Dingaan Mtshwene. The circumstances surrounding their escape are still being investigated.

The manhunt for the remaining two escapees is still underway and anyone with information may contact Detective Warrant Officer Mhletshwa Shabangu at 082 303 9894 or the crime stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

Police investigations on the matter are continuing.
