Mayor urges women to break the silence on gender based violence
SCHOORNOORD
The Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) has joined in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).
MLM’s mayor Minah Bahula led a gender based violence awareness campaign held at Schoornoord on August 26.
The Municipality partnered with Sekhukhune SAPS (Schoornoord) to emphasize messages and awareness against the scourge of what the President of the Republic has termed “a devastating epidemic”.
“The President has called on all of us to consider very seriously the scourge of violence against women, and that we also should consider it as another pandemic that our women and children in society have to deal with on a daily basis. I came here on behalf of our MLM and the leadership collective to also show solidarity with the station that Gender Based Violence can no longer be tolerated. It must be uprooted,” highlighted the mayor
Among those who attended the campaign was SAPS Sekhukhune led by Acting Station Commander Col Matjie, Brig Mkhabela, who is also known as a champion of Women Network (an organization that support the plight of women).
The speakers all encouraged women to start speaking out and reporting GBV cases
