Communities demands the shack project to be scrapped
DRESDEN
The communities of Ext 10 were allegedly not consulted by the Limpopo government before the construction of the shacks at Dresden.
This is according to local organizations and political parties In the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality.
Coghsta is erecting 152 temporary shacks for the Ext 10 residents outside Burgersfort. The shacks are to cost a whopping R17 million.
Both the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) and Socialist Agenda for Dispossessed Africans (SADA) said the shacks were erected by the provincial leadership to misuse public funds.
SADA and Sanco addressed members of the media on Friday, few days after the project was suspended.
“We learnt that the project was suspended, but we want it to be completely scrapped. Our people were not consulted at all before this project. This is pure looting by the government, the structures cannot accommodate human beings, they are cattle compound. Even the beneficiaries are not even aware that they are on the list to receive shacks.
“On the list is their girlfriends and boyfriends as well as their friends and families,”said SADA’s Aubrey Ngwatle.
Meanwhile MEC for Coghsta Basikopo Makamu was quoted in the media saying,
“We are currently investigating several allegations levelled on the project. Upon the conclusion of the investigations, we will resume with the project, taking in consideration aspects raised so that it could stand the test of time.”
