The local St Ritas Hospital received a major boost when they were handed
50 Phoenix high-flow oxygen machines last Thursday.
This is in continuous fight against the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Sekhukhune.
MEC for health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, commissioned the 5O machines.
Ramathuba was accompanied by Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) executive mayor, Stan Ramaila, and Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality ( MLM) mayor, Minah Bahula.
“These high-flow oxygen machines will bring a difference in our healthcare facilities as we continue to manage and treat Covid-19 patients. We are excited to have received these machines because even post-Covid-19, these machines will continue to help us with respiratory support for patients who can’t get admissions in ICU,” said Ramathuba.
“In the setting for Covid-19, these machines will be of great advantage because the patient is not incubated: they can talk, they can eat, no need for sedation and patients can be administered in a general ward setting. Results from around the world show that nearly half of the patients on the high-flow oxygen machines
can avoid intubation with good results,” she added.
Ramaila was thankful after the equipment was handed to St Rita’s.
“We are indeed blessed to receive this much-needed intervention from the Provincial Command Council (PCC). We reiterate our clarion call to all our people to please #StaySafe. The people’s compliance with coronavirus regulations is to save their lives and not to impress the government. We highly appreciate these machines.”
