Staff members at Masemola Community FM (MASCOM) paid tribute to their late station manager who was allegedly gunned down on Friday during the night.
Death of the late Mabidikeng Nchabeleng has left many residents in a shock. He was known as a man of God who presented Monwana o tee gao tope kgobe at the station.
He was reappointed as manager this year after taking over from his successor Rider Masemola. In 2016 he was forcefully removed from his position as manager.
This year Mascom went off air for months until he took and make changes like appointing new staff manager and dissolve board member and afforded community an opportunity to elect their own board members.
Regular listeners deem that he rescued the station form its death after internal battle in the station. Due to poor management under Masemola, many presenters left, however Nchabeleng had worked hard to bring them back to the station.
In 2018, as he was presenting his show, he was suspended accusing him of played outrage clip on air which Masemola leadership believed that it caused discrimination amongst the listeners.
On Tuesday, emotional staff members held his memorial services at station, new tracks released after his name were played, audience were allowed to call in and pay tributes as well.
A former sports presenter, Thapelo Kgaditsi, who stayed with him under same roof for twenty four months, said the world lost a man of God. Kgaditsi said the late Nchabeleng offered him accommodation in 2016 after realising that he was traveling to work every day which it was costing him financially.
Current news reader, Poeletjo Aphane said she will remember him because he was treating the entire staff with respect. Poeletjo said she felt that death has robbed them with uncontested manager..
“During spare time with him at the station, one would forget that he was our manager. He was likely to say whatever situation you come across the only thing you can do is to pray,” said Poeletjo.
He will late to rest on Thursday at his home in Ga Masemola (Thabampje)
