Unhappy residents in Ga Mashabela, Mahlakaseleng area have raised concern over people who were hired by ward committee for upcoming project of toilets in the ward 25 under Makhuduthamaga local municipality.
Residents said Mokgohlwe Seshothela, who is a ward committee in the area was not transparent nor followed proper procedure to hire eligible people who would work in the toilet projects.
They accuse Mokgohlwe of practising nepotism activity and favouritism when using her power to hire people on several projects in the area.
It is alleged that hired people were called during the night secretly.
Concerned residents claims that appointed people confirmed that they received phone calls from Mokgohlwe.
“We questioned the decision and wanted to figure out why she hired people without community knowing about the upcoming project,” said residents
According to the community alleged corrupt ward committee never consulted them about the project which is why they ended up calling for the intervention of chieftaincy.
“Chieftaincy called an urgent meeting seeking clarity from ANC ward councillor and its ward committee,” explained residents.
“In a meeting ward committee told residents that she considered nearby sub villages bricklayers for the job. However we found out later that she was lying because she mostly hired her friends,” said hopeless residents.
“We also learned that she hired three people from one household. It’s unfortunate because we have high number of unemployed people in the area. We wonder which power she practices to do that,” said unhappy residents
Reliable source who deem ward councillor is irresponsible said she failed to be transparent on hiring people. Source said the ward councillor misled the community in a meeting by promising to introduce the project manager to the community but that never happened.
“She defies our call to hire proximity bricklayers who need the job but continue to defraud by considering friends. As community we are still shocked because if people who claim to be leaders fails to follow protocols on a simple thing like hiring people for temporarily job then who should follow it,” said residents
One hired individual confirmed that he received a call during the night from ward committee.
