“Lengana plant must be harvested in a regulated manner” says provincial command council
Sekhukhune
Limpopo coronavirus command council said it is against the use of the Lengana plant for medical purpose saying it must be harvested in a regulated manner.
This comes after the Economic freedom fighters (EFF) in the province alleging that the police in the Sekhukhune area are harassing and unlawfully arresting people for harvesting the plant.
Spokesman for provincial government, Kenny Mathivha said the prevention of the large harvesting of lengana seeks their extinction in the country.
“We noted the sudden increase in the harvesting of the plant, whose use spans over many decades, with some of the view that it can cure covid-19,” said command council.
Regional chairperson of the EFF in Sekhukhune, Moleke Senong confirmed that he received several complaints about the people who were manhandled by police over the matter.
Senong said unfair treatment by police would not be tolerated
