Temporary shelter for the homeless’ remaining beneficiaries receive clothes

SCHOONOORD – A group of homeless people temporarily housed at Peter Nchabeleng Sports Complex in Schoonoord outside Jane Furse, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, were recently handed over new clothes by the local municipality’s Mayor Minah Bahula.

According to Mayor Bahula they {Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality} embarked on the momentous and challenging initiative in response to the National Command Council’s call to embrace the homeless who found themselves in the state they {the homeless} were in their lives.

Bahula said many of the homeless were disowned by their families because of their conduct which often resulted in the theft of valuable home items to feed their addictions.

“It pains me the most because some of them are equally talented and educated,” said Mayor Bahula. She assured the group that together with the provincial government, the local municipality would continue to provide support.

“I challenge you as your mother to embrace this opportunity of a life time to mend your ways and believe that one day, you will turn around your situation and that of your families,” said Bahula to the group of homeless people during the donation of the clothes.

The Peter Nchabeleng Complex temporary shelter at the start, accommodated 27 homeless people and currently, is remaining with 15 of them whose many are on the road to full recovery from substance abuse.

The group, overwhelmed with joy from the donation of the clothes by the local municipality, expressed gratitude for the support they were receiving from the shelter since its inception amid the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
