POLICE OPEN INQUEST AFTER TWO ALLEGED ILLEGAL MINERS WERE KILLED IN ROCK FALL
Atok-The Police in Apel outside Burgersfort have opened a case of Inquest after two illegal miners were killed when a huge rock allegedly fell on them while manually mining chrome at Atok, Bogalatladi last night, 05 June 2020 at about 22:00.
Police were called and on arrival, the bodies were seen trapped under a huge rock. Police Search and Rescue Unit and Medical Emergency Services were then summoned to the scene and assisted in retrieving the bodies.This after they managed to crush the rock.
The deceased were identified as Wilson Chauke aged 34, from Atok Mohlahlaneng and Victor Moagi aged 51 from Moroke Village.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has warned all community members to desist from engaging in illegal mining as this is against the law and also dangerous.
