MARBLE HALL – A driver of a sedan of an unknown age at this stage burnt beyond recognition during a fatal road carnage involving a truck on the R33 Road between Marble Hall and Modimolle on Saturday.
According to police the truck was travelling east and the sedan in a westerly direction when the head-on collision occurred.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said it was alleged that the driver of the sedan was travelling alone and that in the truck was only the driver.
Mojapelo said the driver of the truck survived and that of the sedan burnt beyond recognition during the accident. Both vehicles were burnt.
“Ambulance, fire fighters, CRC and pathology division were summoned. The total number in the sedan was only the victim who is deceased and the family was informed. Investigations are continuing,” said Mojapelo.
He said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide following the fatal accident which occurred just before mid-day.
Matome Moremi, Limpopo Department of Transport Spokesperson, said according to a preliminary report the truck and the sedan collided head-on.
Moremi said the accident occurred on the R33 between Rathoke and Tuinplaas when a Mercedes truck and a VW sedan collided head-on at about 11:45am.
Eyewitnesses told the paper that the driver of the sedan lost control of the vehicle and drove underneath the on-coming truck.
