Mathabatha criticized for the visit to Bapedi King
MOHLALESTI- The decision by the Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha to lead a high level government delegation to pay courtesy to Bapedi King, Kgoshigolo Victor Thulare III was criticized by some section of the community.
Mathabatha and several MECs visited Mohlaletsi last Friday.
The visit coincided with the recent recognition of Bapedi King, by President Matamela Ramaphosa.
“At the event, there will limited access to journalists and government officials. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and Social Distancing, requirements,
“The Government Communications will supply necessary photos and audio to community media,” revealed Limpopo provincial government spokesman Kenny Mathivha in a statement prior to the event.
Among other dignitaries present at the event were MECs, executive Mayor of Sekhukhune Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila, all Mayors of Sekhukhune Local municipalities, MPLs and EXCOs of municipalities.
Meanwhile, the Lerumo la Setshaba Restorative Movement (LSRM) in Sekhukhune said Mathabatha has transgressed lockdown regulations by attending the event with his entourage as well as the SAPS.
“The news of the visit came as a shock to Lerumo la Setshaba Restorative Movement, upon learning that indeed the leadership of the Limpopo government was allowed to break the Covid-19 lockdown regulations, particularly the premier who is supposed to be the custodian and exemplary in the province, to practice and implement law on all matters in the province which relates to safety and security,”said the movement’s Makgope Hendrick Tswaledi in a media statement.
The movement said more than hundred people congregated at Thulare’s place which is a transgression of Covid-19 regulations. They highlighted that Mathabatha has to face the music.
