Hopeless Seroka family in Lebowakgomo is living in fear that they might be buried alive inside a potentially dangerous sinkhole.
The family is living under bad state of blocked drain. They alleged lodged a complaints to the Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality officials, but the municipality did not attend the matter till to date.
According to the family, the blocked sewage is leaking from the hole near rooms at the back of her property.
“We have lost hope in our public officials; we deem that they don’t want to help us. It’s a shame because we have to live with waste in our house. The problem caused us much pain and it is unhealthy,” said worried mother of four, Emily Seroka.
“Our ward councillor does not take our calls. You would wonder how a person who is supposes to help the community not answering the cell phone,” she said.
Emily said they have reported the unusual matter to the officials and local ward councillor.
Mamosadi Nkogoatse, a resident who live the same street with Emily, said they have been trying to resolve the sewage problem with no luck.
Mamosadi accuses previous contractors of quitting their job without completion. She said Seroka family have been living under poor condition since last year.
“We noticed the ignorance of the councillor and we attempted to take the matter to the district but we couldn’t due to lockdown,” explained Emily
Sefoka family sometimes utilise neighbours shelter as theirs remains non-operational.
Lepelle Nkumpi local municipality said they were not aware of the matter. Municipality state that limited budget restricts them to assist community in time.
Comment from ward councillor who does not take calls from the community was futile.
