Zama Zamas remanded in custody after bail denial

MOOIHOEK – Four alleged Zama Zamas arrested in Driekop area outside Burgersfort on Thursday, 07 May 2020, were denied bail when they appeared before the Praktiseer Magistrates Court on Friday, 08 May 2020.

The four suspects, arrested by members of the provincial organized crime unit during an intelligence driven operation conducted in the area of Driekop, had their case remanded to Friday, 15 May 2020 for formal bail application and further police investigations.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the suspects, Clement Chris Khoza (39), Jacob Daniel Khoza (20), Granny Makola (30) and John Msiza (34) were arrested in Mooihoek Village at about 01:00, after they were caught loading chrome.

Mojapelo said police confiscated a truck with a trailer and a Mercedes Benz C220 during the arrest of the illegal miners.

He said they were facing charges of illegal mining and possession of suspected stolen chrome. Police investigations are ongoing.
