KGAUTSWANE – Five suspects between the ages of 18 and 34 years-old, facing serious and violent charges, were denied bail when they appeared before the Praktiseer Magistrates Court on Friday, 08 May 2020.
The five suspects, facing charges of murder, attempted murder, three counts of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, presumed stolen properties and business burglary committed around the Burgersfort area, had their cases postponed to Friday, 15 May 2020 for formal bail application and further police investigations.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the suspects were arrested after they were positively linked to the murder of a 43 year-old shop owner and attempted murder of his assistant during a business robbery which allegedly occurred at Kgautswane Village in Leboeng area outside Burgersfort on 14 April 2020.
Mojapelo said the suspects were further linked to several robberies and a burglary in and around the area of Burgersfort.
“Three firearms and ammunition, cellphones, micro-ovens, laptops, speakers, amplifiers, plasma TV, mixer and a Nissan bakkie, were confiscated during the arrests,” informed Mojapelo.
Mojapelo said the suspects were identified as Tonderia Motseke (43), Nikson Matanda (28), Trymore Mapakiti (26), Philemon Sithole (18) and Obey Mthembu (31). He concluded that further investigations were being conducted to determine whether the suspects had committed similar cases in that area and across the province
