GROBLERSDAL – To help the needy have access to food during COVID-19 lockdown, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality initiated the local municipality’s food bank recently.
This after numerous complaints across the province about government’s food parcels not reaching deserving people as a result of alleged abuse of the parcel’s distribution process by others.
According to EMLM the initiative aimed to provide relief for the needy during the COVID-19 lockdown and help provide nutritious food for the deserving residents, while ensuring social development occurs alongside food support.
Speaking during the recent Command Council meeting, Julia Mathebe, EMLM Mayor, said the food bank they launched last Tuesday would provide temporary relief for those who could not meet their family’s most basic needs during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
Mathebe appealed to all stakeholders to assist in donating to the local municipality’s food bank and encouraged all councilors who received any form of donations to avail them to the office of EMLM Council Speaker, David Tladi, for registration in the food bank.
