Two arrested for contravening disaster management regulations
STOFFBERG – Tow male suspects were arrested for contravention of disaster management regulations at a joint roadblock in Stoffberg outside Groblersdal on Saturday, 25 April 2020 morning at about 03:30, according to SAPS statement.
According to the statement law enforcement officers on the roadblock, comprising members from Mpumalanga and Limpopo with the help of traffic officers, were conducting COVID-19 routine co-duty when a white Toyota Quantum approached with two occupants.
The statement said the vehicle was stopped and searched whereby large a consignment of cases of alcoholic beverages was found in the taxi.
“The two male suspects aged 27 and 49 were arrested on the spot and the consignment was confiscated and registered,” read the SAPS statement.
The statement further read that preliminary investigations revealed that the liquor was transported from Phokwane village in Sekhukhune district to Witbank in Mpumalanga.
“The suspects will face charges in terms of Disaster Management Regulations and police investigations are continuing,” concluded the statement.
