Limpopo schools burgled.
LIMPOPO
The Limpopo Department of Education has recorded 76 incidents of burglary in schools since the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Electronics and National School Nutrition Programme food supplies still top the list of items stolen.
The list also includes building materials, cleaning materials, toys, mattresses, lawnmowers, sports equipment and a borehole pump.
All recorded incidents have been reported to the South African Police Service.
The department welcomes the decision by the police to escalate the matter for reinforced intervention from safety and security agencies and increase patrol around schools.
The MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo has reiterated the call to communities and School Governing Bodies to protect schools by reporting any suspicious activities and cooperating with the police during investigations.
“These are our schools, let us make sure we still have them standing by the time we reopen” said Boshielo
