The first case of Covid-19 coronavirus in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality has resulted in a fatality.
The deceased died private surgery on April 20. The incident was confirmed by the Limpopo MEC for health Dr Phophi Ramathuba during a media briefing held in Lebowakgomo on April 26.
According to Ramathuba the deceased was working in Cape Town as a traditional healer and also did other freelance work.
” He was brought to Limpopo by his son after he reportedly got sick and had symptoms of Covid-19. The deceased arrived in the province between April 15 and 16. He was taken to a prophet and another traditional healer with no improvement. He was then taken to a general practitioner and unfortunately, he demised in that surgery. “
We can consider this as death on arrival” revealed Ramathuba.
Ramathuba indicated that the swabs of the deceased were taken on the day he passed away by the private doctor.
“The post mortem results came back on April 23 and confirmed he was infected by the virus.
“15 members who came in to contact with the deceased had been tested and we are awaiting the results. We have also assisted the family in the burial of the deceased.”
The MEC indicated that they have traced all the people who came into contact with the deceased.
She said all other reports circulating on social media platforms about coronavirus infections in Sekhukhune are fake.
