In an open interview with Sekhukhune Times, a young transgender, Kgothatso Maesela (17), shared her personal battles of being born in the wrong body.
Ga Maesela woman is a courageous model who wants to dispel the myth and uphold the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community.
Kgothatso believes she was born a male child but she refused to identify or be raised as a boy
“As a boy growing up, I played with a lot of girls because in my mind I was a girl. I remember being confused as a child because mentally I felt like a girl while physically i was the opposite,” said Kgothatso.
“I endured the pain of having to deal with reality of being stuck in a man’s body as a woman. I asked myself lot of questions, especially when I had to take a bath,” she said.
Today Kgothatso wants to reach whose children may be going through what she went through growing up in a rejecting family and a community humiliating people like her.
A grade 11 learner at Madithame secondary school said it was very crucial for her to come out in public because LGTBI community have to live with the humiliation and scorn they are subjected due to lack of knowledge by the public.
“Well I really don’t have feelings for girls but I do have feelings for boys. As we speak I am dating boys. Already people are talking about me on the street, no need to disclose my status,” she explained.
Kgothatso said she has nothing to hide stating that she buys female outfits.
Speaking of her spare time she said: “I am writing poems, reading books and following models lifestyles,”
