Residents take matter into their hands

Sefateng

Sefateng residents had donated money to buy needy materials to fix poor roads with many loop holes and potholes saying both holes damaged their valuable vehicles.

Community members accuse their municipality of neglecting them by failing to fix broken infrastructure in the area

“We decided to take matter into our hands because the Fetakgomo Tubatse local municipality (FTLM) has failed us,” said one of the crew, who participated in the fixing the road.

Residents said the potholes were everywhere and caused them to repair their vehicles regularly.

“Our cars are damaged and when it rains, we cannot even drive in to the road,” said a community leader, Phaswe Kau.

Kau said in the past three years, residents signed petition together with their local African National Congress (ANC) ward councillor and handed it over to the FTLM.

“In the petition we implored the municipality to fix the potholes,” said Kau.

Kau said the municipality had since promised to fix the potholes but nothing was done till to date.

“We followed the rules during construction, we had sanitizers, applied social distancing and crew wearing masks,” he said.

The municipality confirmed that they received the petition but due to covid-19 the issue was unattended.
