SEKHUKHUNE – In its continued fight against the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, following last week’s setting up of its Command Centre in Groblersdal, Sekhukhune District Municipality embarked on a drive to check for adherence to nationwide Coronavirus related lockdown regulations in various area within the district.

Leading the visits to different businesses and centres, Stanley Ramaila, Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor, said the main aim of the initiative, involving various divisions of the district municipality such as Department of Home Affairs, Department of Health, Department of Transport, The South African Police Service, the Covid-19 team among others, was to ensure adherence to the regulations of the national lockdown.

Executive Mayor Ramaila said the intention was to work with businesses and community members to ensure maximum adherence to the regulations to fight the spread of the pandemic.

On Wednesday, 08 April 2020 morning, the number of people who tested positive for Coronavirus in the country stood at over 1700 with reported 13 deaths.

Ramaila visited Burgersfort Town on Tuesday and Bapedi Complex in Ga-Nkoana village to expand the compliance-check visit program of the district.

“We applaud the provincial Command Council for having unleashing soldiers to Burgersfort, Jane Furse and Dennilton. These areas today, show signs of compliance compared to previous weeks. We are at work and repeat our resolve that human lives matter the most,” said Ramaila.

Ramaila said some of the businesses that were closed down during the visits on the bases of non-compliance would be revisited to check whether they improved on issues raised prior to their closure.
