Four suspects were arrested after they were found
with illegally mined chrome at Ga Makgoba village on Sunday. The arrest was
spearheaded by the Limpopo SAPS’s Organised Crime Unit.
The men and women in blue intercepted and nabbed the suspects aged between 28 and 68, for illegal mining and for possession of illegally mined minerals (Chrome) during a sting joint operation conducted in the Mecklenburg policing area.
“The Police team was on a disruptive operation at the village which is next to Twickenham Mine when the four suspects were spotted driving in two motor vehicles. They were stopped, searched and Police found buckets full of chrome. During the arrest, the two motor vehicles were also confiscated,” said Limpopo SAPS’s spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has complimented the Provincial team for dealing with any form of illegal mining head-on in the Province. The suspects will soon appear before the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court . The SAPS investigations are still ongoing.
