RIBA CROSS “One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, And He will repay him for his good deed.” This was the bible verse quoted by Sinky Mkhonto, a pastor at the
United Pentecostal Church (UPC) in Riba Cross.
Mkhonto ’s church was handed over a new building by local businessman Shawn Davids. He owns Shawn’s Ice a company dealing in ice cubes in Burgersfort, the kind hearted business man also owns a liquor store know to locals as “ Ga Shawn” in Extension 10 .The church was officially handed over to the community last Monday. He said it took him about five months to complete the worship house.
“I learned of the UPC members’ challenges last year. They travelled long distances to attend church sermons in Burgersfort. Some couldn’t afford taxi fares and
were forced to bunk church.
He said he is grateful to suppliers who sold some of the products to him on discount. “Several shops assisted with the equipment. I thank them for making this project a success.”
The new church will officially be used by the members this Sunday
