With the aim to accelerate services   at Philadelphia Hospital, Limpopo Department of Health ‘s MEC Phophi Ramathuba has ringed changes at the troubled health institution. The MEC visited the hospital on Tuesday.

She has introduced Dr Sello Lebea as the interim Head of Institution. For quite a while, Philadelphia hospital has been in the spotlight for negative reasons.

Informed by internal investigations, the MEC has redeployed both CEO and the Senior Clinical Manager as part of bringing stability to the hospital.

Lebea is tasked with putting up systems to ensure that every affected stakeholder works together to ensure that the hospital improves how it delivers services to the community.

MEC Ramathuba who was accompanied by the HOD Dr Thokozani Mhlongo spent the entire day meeting various stakeholders during their working visit to Philadelphia Hospital.

The MEC and the HOD met the hospital management before meeting the hospital board, residents associations, organized labour and staff members.

After listening to the board and also employees, the MEC said the challenges they raised emanates from lack of managerial and clinical governance at the institution and thus corrolate the findings of the department’s investigation.

“With proper management that is ready to manage, most of the challenges here would not even exist, hence we decided that there can never be real change in this institution unless we changed the top. We have seen this kind of situation and we effected necessary changes by bringing young, energetic and passionate managers and things changed for the better.” Said Ramathuba.

The staff members, organised labour and community stakeholders welcomed the changes. To this end, the MEC has requested the entire staff and the community to support Dr Lebea as the first step towards turning around the hospital.
