Organisations demand Ramathuba’s resignation

LIMPOPO

Limpopo’s MEC of health Phophi Ramathuba is accused of running the
department like a spaza. Several organisations and political parties protested to the MEC’s offices – they all want her gone.

Among the organisations demanding her resignation is the Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union, SAFTU, as well as Socialist Agenda of Dispossessed Africans (SADA) in Tubatse.

The organisations accused the MEC of neglecting human lives. The protesters carried a coffin to the department accusing Ramathuba of killing patients by not hiring enough nurses.

SADA’s Aubrey Ngwatle said the MEC failed in absorption of graduated nurses and has collapsed infrastructure in the province.

According to YNITU President Lerato Madumo-Gova, more than 540 healthcare professionals are facing unemployment while communities are suffering due to lack of staff members at the facilities in the province.

“It does not make sense to find the MEC that train nurses over years and then when it’s time for those nurses to service their own communities she lets them go. You can’t just take people’s money and throw it in to the dustbin like what she did,” Madumo-Gova added.
