MOGANYAKA – Three suspects arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 58 year-old woman from Moganyaka village outside Marble Hall were again remanded to custody when they appeared before Marble Hall Magistrates Court last Tuesday, 14 January 2020.
The three suspects, Lucky Mphafudi (30), Sikhongesile Moyo (40) and Suliman Makarimba (39) had their case postponed to 18 February 2020 for further police investigations.
Police said the suspects were arrested by a team of detectives composed of detectives and the crime intelligence, following the mysterious disappearance Maleswena on 28 February 2019.
According to police the arrest of the three came after an incident when Maleswena, an employee at one of the surgeries in Marble Hall town, was reported missing on the 28 February 2019 by her family after she failed to return home.
Police added it was alleged that the victim received a phone call from an unknown woman who arranged to meet her at a restaurant next to the Marble Hall Taxi rank. The missing Rebecca boarded a taxi from her home to honour the appointment, never to be seen again.
The matter was reported to police who started with their investigations and followed up on information of a possibility that her body may have been thrown into the crocodile infested Oliphants River in Leewfontein.
“Police Search and Rescue Team was immediately activated and the search operation in this river ensued for several days with no success. The motive behind this incident is still not clear at this stage,” said police.
